The Sorben-Tec system for rapid dosimetric evaluation of 137Cs in drinking water

The Sorben-Tec system was developed for rapid evaluation of cesium radionuclides in aqueous solutions using a domestic personal dosimeter or survey beta radiometer. Linear calibration curves were obtained for dosimetric and beta-radiometric measurement of cesium. In case of 20 L water samples, detection limits of 137Cs were found to be 12.3 and 2.0 Bq/L for dosimetric and beta-radiometric measurements, respectively. It is shown that this simple device can be used by people living in radiation contaminated areas to perform a quick test and assess whether drinking water is fit for purpose.
