The MODIKS sorbent is an inorganic sorbent based upon manganese dioxide. Is issued in 2 modifications: MODIKS and MODIKS-K (composite version). The composite version of this sorbent includes the substance natural aluminosilicate (opal) as the carrier for the sorption media.
Manganese dioxide captures ions of strontium, plutonium, uranium, and daughter products of decay of radon from water solutions.

Standard version of MODIKS is most effective for use in a static mode (the introduction of the sorbent into the solution, followed by stirring and separation).
The recommended ratio of “sorbent : solution” is 10 kg to 1000 liter. Necessary contact time is 3 hours. Efficiency of extraction is 70 - 95%.
MODIKS K is recommended for use in a dynamic mode at a rate of filtration of the solution of 10 column volumes per hour, and the sorbent layer thickness of 20 cm. The optimum ratio of height to diameter of column in the sorbent bed is 2.5 - 3.5.
